Founded in 1842, The New York Philharmonic is the oldest symphony orchestra in the US and the third oldest in the world. Since 1917 the Philharmonic has recorded nearly 2,000 albums and has championed the new music of its time, giving the first performances of many important works. This tradition has continued to the present day, with works of major contemporary composers regularly scheduled each season.

The symphony performs at Avery Fisher Hall which is a world-renowned venue and an excellent setting for classical music. If you have never been to the symphony – not to worry check out their web site – there is a good section on how to prepare and what to expect.
